[Trish listens intently, leaning forward unconsciously, because Giorno has that look in his eye. The one that arises when he wants to be understood, completely. His voice takes on a familiar timbre, his words artfully placed.

Her eyes close as she considers each and every one of them.

It's very interesting to hear about this after getting to know Doppio a little more herself. Not that she's seen him nearly as often nor known him as long, but she's familiar enough she recognizes some things. Doppio regressed, yes, but she disagrees that he fared much better without Diavolo. Their first meeting weighs on her mind, when Doppio showed how broken he was, and that was after eight months of living without his boss? Maybe he would have recovered from such a drastic loss with more time, but she doubts that. You have to have support, you have to want to move on, she thinks. It was clear he had no one to push him forward, and his interest in climbing out of his misery? Utterly absent. He didn't know how to live like that. He didn't want to.

Doppio is Diavolo's strength. Diavolo is therefore Doppio's strength. The two are inextricably linked.

Hearing all of this from Giorno does something, certainly. Indeed, it's the opposite of the very possible reality he's trying to impress upon her, as his explanation serves to galvanize her instead. If all of this is true, it simply means Doppio is the part of Diavolo that is capable of more – capable of change – so investing in him is worth it. What happened at the beach was a major setback for him, but he is doing the curious thing of working with her.

Is that at Diavolo's behest? She can't imagine so. After giving her the photo, she's starting to believe he's doing things independent of Diavolo. Mostly because she can't fathom Diavolo allowing any of it.

But she can't say this to Giorno. He won't forgive what happened at the beach, not when Doppio is acting out like he did on the network. There's no way to make him believe in her cause right now.

So what does she say?

Trish is quiet for a stretch. When she opens her eyes, it's easy for Giorno to see his own worry...is not reflected back at him.

I don't disagree, Giorno. But what you're saying only convinces me further that they're not going to act.

[Her tail whisks back and forth.]

Not out of any kindness for the people close to us, no. I think if they had the opportunity, they would kill with impunity. However, trying that here would be suicide. I know you assert that it's only a matter of their skewed perspective, but it's been months, and my father has been completely absent since the summer. I don't believe it's unreasonable to assume they're perfectly aware now of just how much our dynamic has changed.

[Because if Doppio spoke true, Diavolo is terrified of Giorno. That is another shift in the single unit they represent, because Doppio isn't. But if Diavolo is hesitant to engage Giorno, that means Doppio ought to be too.]

Again, I'm not saying they're harmless. Far from it. I just want you to understand why I'm not worried the way you are. Until the situation changes, that's essentially my feelings on the two of them.
